At Eaton Park Academy, Geography is a valued part of the curriculum, which provides a purposeful meaning for exploring, appreciating and understanding the world in which we live in and how it has evolved. Geography explores the relationship between the Earth and its people through the study of place, space and environment. In Geography, pupils learn to develop an understanding of their locality and how people fit into its overall structure. Geography encourages children to learn through experience and through practical, fieldwork activities.

The National Curriculum for Geography aims to ensure that pupils develop:

  • Knowledge of globally significant places both on land and at sea.
  • Understanding of physical and human geographical features of the world.
  • Geographical skills that can be used to collect data, interpret maps and to communicate geographical information in a variety of ways.

Through Geography we can also:

  • Improve pupils’ skills in literacy, mathematics and ICT
  • Develop pupils’ thinking skills
  • Promote pupils’ awareness and understanding of gender, cultural, spiritual and moral issues
