Welcome to 6S! We love to learn, laugh and succeed! We always try to achieve our very best, no matter what the task, and this helps us to accomplish many things every day. We feel proud to be setting an example this year to the rest of the school, and we pride ourselves on being excellent role models. We have our teacher Mrs Sawyer and two teaching assistants: Miss Blundred and Mrs Watson. They work extremely hard every day to ensure that we have only the very best.
We love to celebrate our achievements in 6S and think it is very important to praise each other when we are doing well; it helps to motivate us and keep us on task. Also, we enjoy our celebration assemblies on a Friday; love being awarded with house points; and feel very lucky when we get extra playtime!
What We Are Learning
Throughout our day in school, we enjoy many different lessons. We think it is really important to work together as well as working independently, and we believe the best part about our lessons is when we learn from each other. We often have excellent discussions where we share our opinions and listen to each other. We love reading our class novels in our English sessions; we always produce wonderful writing from our reading. We have really enjoyed reading Goodnight Mister Tom and at the moment we are working hard to develop lots of reading skills in preparation for our SATs. In addition, one of our favourite activities during our English sessions is when we do our talk for writing – we love to be creative! We also enjoy Bug Club in school – there are lots of books to choose from, and we can even access it online at home!
As well as working hard in our English sessions, we also put lots of effort into maths sessions. Co-ordinates, finding the area and perimeter, finding the volume and learning about the parts of a circle are just a few aspects of the Year 6 curriculum that we are focusing upon at the moment. Even though it is tricky at times, we work together to tackle the challenges.
In 6S, we also love our PE sessions with Mr Bell and enjoy our Music sessions with Mr Chubb. Our spelling sessions are really helping to us to progress – we use our our Read, Write, Inc practise books and these help us to learn the different spelling rules and patterns. Our handwriting is also improving a lot, and we particularly enjoy creating perfect sentences to show off our handwriting.
Helping Us at Home
Something that we know is very important for our learning is homework. We are preparing ourselves for high school by making sure that our homework is handed in on time – sometimes we have to have it in by the next day! Our homework at the moment is focused upon reading, grammar and maths. Part of our weekly homework is to read three times a week and to practise spellings for our test on a Friday. This helps our learning immensely.
