6S

Teacher: Mrs Sawyer

Teaching Assistants: Miss Blundred

Welcome to 6S! We love to learn, laugh and succeed! We always try to achieve our very best, no matter what the task, and this will help us to accomplish many things every day. As we embark upon our last year at Eaton Park Academy, we feel proud to be setting an example to the rest of the school, and we promise to pride ourselves on being excellent role models.

An important part of being in 6S will be celebrating our achievements – it is very important to praise each other when we are doing well; it helps to motivate us and keep us on task. We can’t wait to start earning dojos, and we are ready for the challenge of being top dojo winners so that we can attend the amazing end of year trip!

What We Are Learning

Throughout our day in school, we enjoy many different lessons. We think it is really important to work together as well as working independently, and we believe the best part about our lessons is when we learn from each other. We will be having discussions where we share our opinions and listen to each other. Additionally, we are looking forward to reading our class novels in our English sessions – our first one is called Fox! We will also be enjoying Goodnight Mister Tom as part of our history sessions. Our aim is to always produce wonderful writing from our reading. We will be working hard to develop lots of reading skills in preparation for our SATs. We also enjoy Bug Club in school – there are lots of books to choose from, and we can even access it online at home!

As well as working hard in our English sessions, we also put lots of effort into maths sessions. Co-ordinates, finding the area and perimeter, finding the volume and learning about the parts of a circle are just a few aspects of the Year 6 curriculum that we can’t wait to learn all about! Even though it will be tricky at times, we will work together to tackle the challenges.

In 6S, we also love our PE sessions with Mr Bell and enjoy our music sessions with our teachers. Our spelling sessions will be really helpful to us and help us to progress – we will be using Read, Write, Inc practise books to learn the different spelling rules and patterns. Our handwriting is lovely; however, there is always room for improvement, and this will also be an important part of our learning day.

Helping Us at Home

Something that we know is very important for our learning is homework. We will be preparing ourselves for high school by making sure that our homework is handed in on time – next term we will sometimes have to have it in by the next day! Part of our weekly homework is to read three times a week and to practise spellings for our test on a Friday. This helps our learning immensely.
