Teacher: Miss Jennings
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Fiddes
Welcome to Class 5J! Miss Jennings is looking forward to another year with her class with the welcome addition of Mrs Fiddes. We will experience lots of different subjects and have opportunities to try new things every day – it certainly won’t ever be dull! Over the course of the year, all members of staff will have high expectations of the children, and will prosper to support them to achieve their best. If you ever come in to see us, you will be greeted by a caring, respectful class that are proud to show off their Academy.
What We Are Learning
Over the course of this year, we will encounter many interesting and fun-filled activities to develop our understanding across the curriculum. Looking to be inspired in our writing, we will delve into the magnificent story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and we will have the opportunity to visit Cadbury World. Our topics include ‘To the Stars’, ‘Ancient Greeks’ and the intriguing ‘Fever, Fire and Fashion’, centred around the Great Plague of the seventeenth Century. As a part of this, we will go on an enjoyable trip to Eyam Museum to learn about the impact of the plague on the Derbyshire village and how the disease was stopped from spreading.
PE sessions with Mr Bell take place every Thursday afternoon.
Helping Us at Home
Homework will be sent home each Monday, with it needing to be returned on a Friday. This will include many important things, such as vital practice of spellings and maths. We also have the fantastic Bug Club reading programme, which children are encouraged to read on at least once a week at home alongside their reading book. Children will also complete a weekly times tables test, so practicing these regularly would be extremely helpful to improve rapid recall.
