Class 5W, where W represents: Wonderful, Wicked and Wacky! These are the words which describe our fabulous class. In our class, there are 20 of us, plus our fabulous teachers, Mrs Whitmore, who cares for us all, and who often says we are the best, most polite class, and that we are such eager learners – we love to talk about our work and learning! Also, our fantastic teaching assistant, Miss Birch, who we couldn’t cope without!
We would like to share some information with you about life in 5W.
5W is a busy learning environment where you will always find us working very hard and enjoying our lessons. Every minute is taken up with learning either with Mrs Whitmore, Mr Bell or Mr Copestake . They have very high expectations which motivate us to achieve our best.
This year our topics have been ‘To the stars’, ‘Ancient Greeks’ and probably our favourite ‘Fever, Fire and Fashion.’ We have loved learning about the disgusting plague! We enjoy learning about many different symptoms of the plague, how it started and spread and about The Great Fire of London. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Eyam Museum, where we learnt about how they managed to contain the plague and stop it from spreading past the tiny village. We have already seen some amazing homework projects linked to our topics and look forward to many more.
During the Summer Term, our topics will be ‘The Myans’, ‘. We will be going to Cadbury World to look at the culture and cocoa links as well as treating ourselves to lots of yummy chocolate whilst we are learning about their civilisation.
In English, we use many different texts to enhance and support our learning. Some we will be using this year include: Hugo Cabret and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which we have loved reading and exploring deeper to create our own pieces of writing. We love to read and delve deep in to various different books. We read a lot during our time at school as well as at home (Mrs Whitmore is always checking our reading diaries!)
On a Tuesday we have Music with specialist our specialist music teacher, Mr Chubb, which we really enjoy and develop our musical skills. Also on a Monday, we have PE with our PE specialist, Mr – who teaches us many different sports including dodge ball, football and dance. It’s one of our favourite lessons of the week! On a Friday, we have Big Maths – we love completing our Rainbow tests and aiming to beat our score, hopefully moving along the rainbow onto the next times table!
As a class, we experience lots of different lessons and we get to learn in many different ways. We always work hard and our teachers award us with house points, certificates and dojos. We also aim to win the class attendance prize for 100% – Dominos Pizza!
We are very lucky at Eaton Park that we get so many learning opportunities inside and outside of school with trips, sporting events, assemblies, visitors etc – which is probably why we are so happy and eager to come to school! We hope you have enjoyed meeting us and we hope you can see how fantastic life and learning is in 5W!
