1H

Teacher: Miss Hayes

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Price

Hello and welcome to 1H’s class page. We are a very happy and lively class who love to make our learning fun and exciting every day!

We have different learning areas in our fabulous classroom which allow us to get the best out of our learning. We have a role play area which is currently a ‘Tea Room’. This helps us to practice our skills that we have been learning such as counting money, it is also very fun!

We have a wonderful reading area where we can practice reading stories with our friends. We especially love story books in 1H and enjoy our class story at the end of every day.

In 1H we also love to get out of the classroom and take our learning outdoors whenever we can. We enjoy lots of active and practical activities to give us new experiences and expand our knowledge. Outside, we love to do investigations and learn about our environment and the world around us.

Our P.E day is currently Wednesday.

What are we Learning

In our English lessons we will have the opportunity to read lots of different styles of writing such as Fiction, Non-fiction and Poetry. We will be reading lots of exciting stories and picture books and talking about the characters and the story. This will help us to use our imagination and create our own amazing writing. In Year 1 we are working very hard to use capital letters and full stops in our sentences with lovely, neat handwriting and finger spaces. We also try to use the conjunction ‘and’ in our sentences and lots of exciting adjectives to make our writing even more special!

In Mathematics we are starting to learn about addition, subtraction and place value. We will begin to order numbers and to find one more and one less than a number. To help us with our addition and subtraction, we will be using counters and number lines to count forwards or backwards. In Big Maths we will be linking our learning to our story this term, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We will begin by learning about shape and measure and asking questions such as ‘who has the heaviest chair? How can we measure it? In our mental arithmetic we will be learning to count all the way up to 100, forwards and backwards. We will also begin to count in 2’s and 10’s.

Our current topic is ‘All about me’ where we are learning all about ourselves and where we live. We will be looking at what life at Eaton Park would have been like in the past compared to what it is like now. We will also be able to design our own class name plate where each child will be able to use their creativity and imagination as well as a variety of media.

In our Geography lessons we are looking at maps of Eaton park as well as creating our own maps with our own map symbols.

We will be celebrating all of our achievements that we accomplish over the next half term in our Celebration assemblies on Friday mornings in the KS2 hall.

Helping us at home

You can help us at home by listening to us read every night and practising our weekly spellings with us.

For Maths we would love if you could help your children to count forwards and backwards to 100. In year 1, our children are also expected to be able to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Thank you for your ongoing support with your child’s learning.
